John, one of Jesus’ disciples, prayed for the early church in 3 John 2 that they be in health aside enjoying emotional, mental, material and financial prosperity. He understood that without sound health it will be difficult to enjoy other forms of wealth. I guess the World Health Organization has similar understanding by defining health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
John’s wish or prayer is exactly God’s plan for His children. God is healthy and enjoys all-round sound health. This was manifested during Jesus’ 3.5 years ministry on earth. The Bible says “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14. Despite putting on human nature – flesh, Jesus Christ never said, “I am sick”. My prayer for you is that you will never say “I am sick” in Jesus’ name (Isaiah 33:24).
“And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.”
Zion in this verse connotes a Heavenly place or situation. Every child of God is a citizen of Heaven and no one that dwells in Heaven is permitted to be sick.
“But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.” Philippians 3:20 – New Living Translation
“And [now] they sing a new song, saying, You are worthy to take the scroll and to break the seals that are on it, for You were slain (sacrificed), and with Your blood You purchased men unto God from every tribe and language and people and nation.” Revelation 5:9 – AMPC
In line with His desire for His children to enjoy sound health, God sent Jesus Christ to bear our sickness and disease or infirmity. This Jesus accomplished by healing all manner of disease, dyeing and rising from the grave to save us from sin and sickness in fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy found in Isaiah 53:4.
“Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.” NIV
“That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.” Matthew 8:17
Jesus took our infirmities and bore our sickness over 2000 years ago. This means that just as one accepts or receives Jesus as Lord and Savior, one has to believe and accept that Jesus died to take away sickness and disease and to give us God’s kind of health.
So being in health is a state of enjoying divine health. It takes conscious efforts to know, understand and live in line with this truth. God said “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee…” (Hosea 4:6) In other words, God’s people continue to be afflicted by spirits of infirmity, sickness, disease, poverty and so on because they have rejected and lack knowledge of what God has done for them to enjoy sound health and life to the fullest. Walking in divine health is not a function of the number of years you have been attending church services, but a function of the depth of knowledge of God’s word.
Someone reading this message from a sick bed; do you know that by the stripes of Jesus you are healed (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24)? With this consciousness, I urge you to stand up from that sick bed or wheel chair and begin to declare that Jesus took that infirmity and sickness and you no longer have it. As you have declared, so shall it be in Jesus’ mighty name. Begin to do what you couldn’t do before. Jesus Christ has made you whole. Amen!
Sickness is not from God but from satan, so you need to belong to God’s family to enjoy divine health, and note that your health insurance does not matter in this case. To belong to God’s family, say this prayer of salvation.
