I stated in the first part of this message that we need to receive Christ as Lord and Savior and exercise authority over the spirit of death for the Spirit of life to work in us.
Receive Jesus Christ
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name..” John 1:12
God’s word does not say that Jesus followed those who received Him to their homes. There was no way Jesus Christ could have visited the homes of thousands of souls that received Him. So what does it mean to receive Jesus Christ? The Greek word that is translated as “receive” in John 1:12 is “lambano”. The word can be translated as “to receive, to take, to lay hold of, to grab and to grasp.” To receive Jesus Christ means to accept Him and all what He has said concerning Himself. It means that we should believe Him in our heart and confess Him as Lord and Savior.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10
Receiving Jesus Christ admits a believer into God’s family because he or she is born of God and regenerated – the new birth. This new birth by the power of the Holy Spirit, gives a believer a new life that is not dominated by the spirit of death – Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost (Titus 3:5).
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3
Jesus Christ is the only Way to God’s family or Kingdom. Those who belong to God’s family are no longer condemned but enjoy the Spirit of life. This life is the life of God which is everlasting; a believer enjoys this life even after his or her time on earth because it continues on the new earth and is void of pain and sorrow.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
“And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:3-4
The Bible tells us that a born again Christian is raised up with Jesus to sit in heavenly places. So every child of God needs to develop the consciousness of living above all forms of evil including accidents, disease, sickness and death.
“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.” Ephesians 1:19 – 21
“Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:5-6
Furthermore, at new birth, the Spirit of God begins to work in a believer and gives life (quickens) to every area of his or her life.
“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 8:11
If you are yet to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, you can do so now so that you begin to enjoy victory over the spirit of death. You need to believe that by dying on the cross and resurrecting, Jesus Christ destroyed the power of death. Jesus Christ faced death for every believer and has defeated the spirit of death; so death can no longer have dominion over you.
“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. …..Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil..” Hebrews 2:9;14
Use the blood of Jesus
Another way to activate the Spirit of life is by applying the blood of Jesus by faith. We need to plead and sprinkle the blood of Jesus Christ in prayer to ward off evil.
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony..” Revelation 12:11
“And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you.” Exodus 12:13
Furthermore, ensure that you partake of the flesh and blood of Jesus Christ always because the Bible tells us in John 6:54 that, “Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.” The flesh and blood of Jesus Christ, when taken in faith and with understanding, destroys disease and sickness and the life of Christ manifests in the believer.
Exercise Authority Using the Name of Jesus
In Luke 10:19, God reveals to His children that they have authority over all the power of the enemy including the spirit of death. It is left for a believer to use the name of Jesus Christ to exercise this authority.
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Luke 10:19
“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth..” Philippians 2:9-10
For a reader that is contemplating suicide, remember that Jesus Christ loves you and there is hope for a better tomorrow no matter your current circumstance. Do not allow the spirit of death to overcome you. You are reading this message from your sick bed, accept that Jesus Christ took away that sickness over 2000 years ago, so you no longer have it. For a traveler reading this message, do not be afraid; believe that God preserves your going out and coming in (Psalms 121:7-8) and that the Spirit of life is in you, with you and for you, so there shall not be any evil report concerning your journey in Jesus’ name.
I urge us to engage our hearts to say this prayers in Jesus’ name:
- I live above all forms of evil including accidents, enchantments, terrorist and bandit attacks, terminal diseases and sicknesses etc (Ephesians 1:21; 2:6)
- My agreement with death is cancelled (Isaiah 28:18; 1 Corinthians 15:54)
- By the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, I rebuke the spirit of death and cast it out of my life and family (Mark 16:17; Luke 10:19; Revelation 12:11a)
- By the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, I set free any one in my family marked for death (Zechariah 9:11)
- I declare that I and my family members shall not die untimely (Psalms 118:17; Psalms 91:16)
- I establish the covenant of long useful life and I activate the law of the Spirit of life for me and my family members (Romans 8:1-2; Psalms 91:16)
