Acceptable Meditation

King David of old understood that aside from his words and deeds, his thoughts can deeply displease God. He desired that his meditation should not destroy his relationship with God. Every now and then, our minds conceive one thought or the other and these thoughts have the capacity to affect our emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual well-being. Therefore, what we spend time thinking about can either make or mar our lives.

The young man and many others who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon to commit suicide began the journey from the mind. That young lady who lost her self-confidence and self-esteem first accepted it in her mind. According medical experts, so many illnesses come from what goes on in the mind. Sexual relations that are against God’s standard and other forms of offences start from the mind. For this reason, we are admonished to put a shield in front of our minds (See Proverbs 4:23). This is pertinent because whatsoever goes on in our minds that harms our all-round well-being is never acceptable to God. Little wonder Kind David prayed, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14)

It is crucial to note that God sees and knows what goes on in our minds and He applauds or queries our thoughts daily (1 Chronicle 28:9):

“……. for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts….”

I have surfed the internet with Google Chrome for a couple of years and I am intrigued by the way the browser blocks some unwanted and malicious pages that pop up. As God is interested in what we allow our minds to deeply think about, we need to block all malicious thoughts that pop up. One effective mind transforming and blocking tool is God’s Word – principles, methods, ordinances and laws found in the Bible and other anointed Christian literature. We are advised to meditate on God’s Word always for us to enjoy all-round success and for us to have a good and sustained relationship with God. (See Psalm 1:2)

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)

If we continually meditate on God’s Word, by the power of the Holy Spirit, our minds will be renewed and transformed and this helps us to think like God – think about what is true, honorable, pure, right, lovely, excellent and full of praise (Philippians 4:8).

God cannot accept your meditation if you do not have the mind of Jesus Christ because the mind of Christ does not go against God’s standards. And you cannot have the mind of Jesus Christ if you are yet to accept Him as Lord and Savior. Say this prayer of salvation: Dear Jesus Christ, come into my heart. I believe that You came, died and rose again to save me. I confess that You are my personal Lord and Savior and I declare that I am born again. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord. Amen!
