In humility, he bowed before King David Jesse to appreciate the amazing favor. As a person with disability, he never expected that a day will come when the king of Israel will remember and invite him to his palace for a new chapter of his life. It was indeed a new life chapter for Mephibosheth Jonathan as he stepped into the palace of King David. The king brought him out of hardship and poverty for Jonathan’s sake. Jonathan was a good friend and he helped King David when his life was at risk.
Of a truth, the door of favor was opened to Mephibosheth because of his father – Jonathan (See 2nd Samuel 9:1,7). Therefore, names can either shut or open doors of favor and opportunities. The Bible, in Ecclesiastes 7:1a, declares that, “A good name is better than precious ointment.” This implies that having a good name is a valuable asset. It is important to live in a way that earns the trust of others. In every life arena – family, workplace, business and so on, we need to demonstrate integrity that people can depend on.
People are intentional about building either a good name or a bad name. Osama bin Laden and Dr. Myles Munroe are late, but when the former is mentioned, a sound of terrorism resonates while the latter creates a sound of individual, family, organizational, institutional and territorial positive transformation. The reputation Dr. Munroe has built during his time on earth will transcend this and future generations.
What kind of name are you building? What will you be remembered for? Can your name facilitate a job, business or any other life changing opportunity? We all need to deliberately build a good name in every sphere of life. The Bible admonishes us to choose a good name rather than great riches (See Proverbs 22:1)
“Keep your name clean. Don’t make compromises, don’t worry about making a bunch of money or being successful — be concerned with doing good work and make the right choices and protect your work. And if you build a good name, eventually, that name will be its own currency.” – William S.
There is a name that is above every other name. That name subdues natural and supernatural forces when mentioned. That name can open every door shut against your well-being. Hallelujah! Lord Jesus Christ is the precious name (See Philippians 2:9-11). The name of Jesus Christ can work for you if you accept and confess Him as your Lord and Savior. If you are yet to have a relationship with Him, say this prayer of salvation: Dear Jesus Christ, come into my heart. I believe that You came, died and rose again to save me. I confess that You are my personal Lord and Savior and I declare that I am born again. God’s promises will find full expression in my life from today. Amen!
