Setting Personal Development Goals

“Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that whoever reads it may run with it.” (Habakkuk 2:2)

James Allen said, “Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore remain bound.” It is important to note that we need to evolve into a better version of ourselves to break free from the usual and change certain undesired circumstances. In the game of soccer, the team that desires to win must make concerted efforts to score more goals. On this personal development journey, we will examine some self-development tips. One of the key steps to take is to set personal development goals. We must establish clear, achievable short-term and long-term goals for ourselves.

A goal is a seed within one’s mind, a vision planted and a purpose defined. With careful thought and nurtured with care, it sprouts and grows beyond compare. Obstacles may rise, a tempest may rage. But with resolve, you turn a new page. Each step you take, a milestone is achieved. Your spirit soars and your confidence relieved. A personal development goal is something you want to achieve within a specified time that can be meaningful to improve your circumstances.

The Bible admonishes us to write down whatever goal we have set so we can run with it (See Habakkuk 2:2). Research on a certain population has shown that 83% of respondents don’t have goals, 14% had plans but not in writing and only 3% had written goals. Research has also shown that you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals if they are written down. We can set and write down goals to develop our mental skills, emotional skills, social skills, spiritual skills as well as physical well-being.

Serena Williams is one of the individuals that have prioritized personal development. She is an American former professional tennis player, who is one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Serena attributes much of her success to her unwavering focus on self-development, both on and off the court. She dedicated herself to improving her mental and emotional resilience aside from her physical game. Her dedication to personal improvement is seen in how she has always redefined her career, breaking records and inspiring others. So, sow your personal development seed with passion and grace and watch it blossom in time and space. For with a goal and a heart that is bold, your dreams will take flight, a story untold.

God desires that we grow and develop ourselves in every aspect of life (See Job 8:7, Proverbs 4:18). He is available to help you on your personal development journey. But God can only help you when you invite Him, acknowledge and strengthen your relationship with Him. You can invite God by accepting Jesus Christ into your heart. Say this prayer of salvation: Lord Jesus, come into my heart. I receive and confess You as my Lord and Savior. I believe that You died and rose to save me. I declare that I am born again. Please help me to set and achieve my self-improvement goals as I continue to walk with You. Amen.
