The Distinguished Brother

Sunday Omori

He was not happy that God favored his brother. While they were still interacting, out of envy and hatred, he killed his brother. Many people have the nature of Cain, the first person to commit murder in the world. They may not have shot or macheted a sibling but committed murder by mishandling a business belonging to him or her or ganging up with others to thwart a sibling’s effort to progress in life. While some people get excited or are joyful when a sibling is blessed and progressing, some are full of envy and hatred.

Little did Cain realize that he could share in the favor Abel, his brother, enjoyed from God (see Genesis 4). That is how people whose destiny is tied to the rising of a sibling lose out in life. While you are destroying your sibling’s business or life remember that it could be your means of rising out of poverty or struggles. Some people are happy to identify with a sibling who is a celebrity or occupies a prominent position in the society. It would be foolishness to behave like Cain, when you have a loving person or Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, or a generous celebrity as a sibling. This confirms what the Scripture says, “..the whole world lieth in wickedness” and “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (see 1st John 5:19; Jeremiah 17:9). However, just as nemesis caught up with Cain, be ready to bear the consequences if you don’t wish your brother or sister well.

The Unique Brother

I have a brother I will love you to meet. I mentioned earlier that some people are happy to say, “That celebrity is my sister” or “That president is my brother.” This brother of mine is greater than any president or celebrity. He is not wicked – He is loving, kind, compassionate, humble, meek and selfless. While He was on earth, He had James, Joses, Judas, Simon as brothers as well as Salome and Mary as sisters (see Mark 6:3). He was not proud to have the Holy Spirit as His Father (see Luke 1:35). His name is Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is interested in the rising of His siblings. He is so selfless that He left Heaven – His Father’s home, and became human to die for our sins so that we can join Him to enjoy every inheritance God has for us (Revelation 5:4-5). He is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters.

“For both He that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of One, for which cause He is not ashamed to call them brethren.” (Hebrews 2:11)

“..and if children, then heirs — heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if so it be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together.” (Romans 8:17)

Aside from the six siblings the Bible mentions and the children of God around the world, Jesus Christ is willing to relate with you. For Jesus Christ to be your brother, you must accept Him as Lord and Savior (John 1:12). Say this prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, come into my heart. I accept You as my personal Lord and Savior. I believe that you died and rose from the grave to save me. I receive the gifts of forgiveness and righteousness. I declare that I am born again. Thank You for accepting and glorifying me. Amen!

If you said that prayer, welcome to the family of the Most High God. You shall always be distinguished as Jesus Christ is.
